A mother was killed when she fell into an escalator at a shopping mall in China, after she heroically threw her toddler to safety. Xian Liujuan, 30, was carrying her young son at the time but managed to push him out of harms way as she fell, reports Agence France-Presse. Scroll down for video














She throws her son to safety - but cannot save herself

The 39-second video was uploaded to YouTube today, and claims to show CCTV footage from the Jingzhou Shashi Anliang department store in China. The video shows the mother and boy reaching the top of the escalator, before the floor in front collapses.
