Unconscious Soldier in ICU Surprises Everyone with a Salute during Purple Heart Ceremony
Wounded in battle and struggling for his life in the intensive care unit, one soldier defied the odds and surprised everyone when he wakes up in time to salute his commanding officer who was awarding him a Purple Heart, a military decoration awarded to those wounded (or killed) in action.
Josh Hargis of the U.S. Army 3rd Ranger Battalion was critically wounded in Afghanistan while four of his team members were killed. Although he was brought to a hospital, his wounds were so critical he needed to be flown to Germany for further care.
While being awarded a Purple Heart for “bravery, courage, and sacrifice for his country” at the hospital, Hargis remained unconscious. It was, therefore, with much joy that everyone cheered and cried after seeing him raise a slow but still snappy salute to his commanding officer.
Everyone had tears in their eyes as they watched this brave soldier win his inner battles…
